citiWiki

Connecting People and Ideas through the power of collaboration.

Briefly...

citiWiki develops City Wikis for major metropolitan areas in the United States. These "Wiki Cities" are supported by the people who live and work within them, using the power of the MediaWiki engine. citiWiki has produced a City Wiki in four cities:

San Francisco (http://www.thesfwiki.com)

What is a "CitiWiki"?

City Wikis are an experiment in community and a project that can be fruitful for years to come to both old and new in cities they serve. Everyone these days has their own personal blog. They write down everyday activities, things they do, places they go. But how about the city and institutions which surround them? Imagine city wikis as sort of a "blog" for cities themselves: places for sharing, listening, learning, growing and exploring.

Anyone can edit a wiki. Anyone can contribute, change, and add. Most websites you go to are static — you only read them. Wikis are different. What we are aiming for are websites to record information, culture, places, people - identity!

So, go grab your camera and find something! Write a review of your favorite place. Write about a nice thing to do on Tuesdays. Give a picture of your street. The topics and room for exploration are endless.

About Us

CitiWiki was started in February 2008 by Andrew Tutt, a student at Duke University, in connection with his honors thesis research regarding the "free rider" problem of public goods. Feel free to contact him at tutt.andrew@gmail.com
